Just got into a heated argument over The Wire’s most hated character.
Her choice: Stringer Bell.
Mine: Kima Greggs.
Her justification: “While Avon is a family man and Omar obviously is a modern-day Robin Hood, Stringer serves no point other than to be a self-serving asshole.”
My justification: “Stringer is strictly a business man. He’s not pure evil, he’s just looking out for Stringer Bell — Fuck, the guy even took community college classes just to be better at business; He’s the Alec Baldwin in “Glengarry Glen Ross” character and needs to exist. But Kima? Straight up, fuck Kima. Kima Greggs is a lesbian because the series needed a lesbian character to be modern. Kima Greggs only exists because Bunk is too big of a comic relief cohort for McNulty and the show needed a “McNulty, you wrecked 20 cop cars under my watch!” police-commissioner-typle character. She’s always holding McNulty back from being “True Police,” as he so eloquently put in that one scene. Her character was uninteresting, uninspired and I hated every single moment she was on the screen.”
And yet, the two of us in this argument still ended up making out. Uh…
